Dr Jacqueline Kyosiimire-Lugemwa
Is an Immunologist based at MRC/UVRI and LSHTM in Uganda. Her Research has been on Virologic and Immunologic correlates of protection against HIV disease progression in Uganda; Microbial translocation, Inflammation and T-cell activation in HIV ART-treated patients; and the effect of pre-existing immune status and endemic infections on Hepatitis B vaccine mediated immune responses among HIV negative adult Ugandans. She has a Bachelors in Biomedical Laboratory Technology from Makerere University, an MBA (2021) from University of Kisubi, Uganda and a PhD in Clinical Investigative Science – Immunology from Imperial College, London (June 2012). In 2018, she got a Visiting Scholarship with Quantitative Biosciences Institute at the University of California San Francisco to learn new technologies in science and generate collaborations to enhance her Research career. In 2019, she won the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Sub-Saharan Africa Young Talents Awards. Currently, she is working on a project to identify key Antiviral Therapeutic natural products against SARS COV2 using in-vitro studies at Uganda Virus Research Institute. This is supported by the Government of Uganda through the Science Technology and Innovations – Office of the President with collaborative support from UCSF.
