The Vaccine and Epidemics Research Centre (VERC) started out as the COVID-19 research group in March 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The group later got involved in several other pandemic/epidemic responsive research which necessitated the transition into a Vaccine and Epidemics Research Centre. VERC is based at Makerere University Lung Institute within Makerere University College of Health Sciences. The Centre brings together a multidisciplinary team of scientists and partner institutions all working together to develop and/or implement biomedical and socio-behavioral innovations for responding to new and emerging disease threats.
