
Prof. Bruce Kirenga Elected Principal of the College of Health Sciences
In a momentous occasion for the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (CHS), Prof. Bruce Kirenga, the Director of the Makerere University Lung Institute (MLI), has been elected as the new Principal of the College. He takes over from Prof. Damalie Nakanjako, whose leadership has left a lasting impact on the College. This transition marks an exciting new chapter for the College, which continues to play a critical role in advancing health education, research, and healthcare delivery in Uganda and the broader region.
Prof. Kirenga’s election as Principal comes at a time when the College is well-positioned to achieve even greater milestones in health education and research. His remarkable leadership at MLI and his extensive experience in public health, particularly in lung health, make him an ideal candidate to lead CHS into the future. His vision for the College will be instrumental in continuing its mission to produce highly skilled health professionals, strengthen research capabilities, and improve healthcare services across Uganda.

The staff of Makerere University Lung Institute couldn’t miss the opportunity to celebrate this significant milestone. In recognition of Prof. Kirenga’s new role, MLI staff gathered to cut a celebratory cake, showing their support and appreciation for his leadership and the achievements that lie ahead. This moment of celebration was a testament to the strong bond and collaborative spirit within the Makerere University Lung Institute team.
As the Principal of CHS, Prof. Kirenga will continue to build on the successes of his predecessors and will lead the College towards its goals of excellence in health sciences education, research, and practice.
