BIOMIC Program is funded by the Government of Uganda through the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat – Office of the President (STI-OP) and coordinated at Makerere University Lung Institute.
The BIOMIC Program 2026, is a 6-months Venture Development Accelerator where teams tackle real-world challenges by applying new technologies and design thinking, using fundamental research to develop tangible solutions for societal needs, fostering creativity, collaboration, and broader economic development in a structured, focused environment to create impactful innovations beyond traditional R&D.
BIOMIC Program through this accelerator is looking to identify hi-tech, high potential startups, researchers and founders building innovative solutions fitting within the healthcare sector across the following industries:
Healthtech
Biotech
Research
Telemedicine
Diagnostics
Vaccines
Therapeutics
Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
6-Months Hybrid Accelerator program with access to in-person expert sessions, virtual masterclasses and mentoring sessions, covering topics such as idea validation, product validation, route to market, IP, product development and product scaling, partnerships.
Top 3–5 businesses selected for the Accelerator program will be recommended for financial support/grants.
The Venture Bootcamp will culminate with a hybrid Demo Day, wherein the cohort will pitch to an audience comprising corporates, investors, DFIs and government agencies from Kampala and the Region. Top-3 winners will be announced for further funding support.
6-Months Hybrid Accelerator programme with access to in-person expert sessions, virtual masterclasses and expert sessions, covering topics such as idea validation, product validation, route to market, IP, product development and product scaling, partnerships.
During the course of the accelerator each selected startup will get access to $500,000 worth of technology credits from partners such as Zoho, Microsoft, Canva, DigitalOcean, FreshWorks and more that will help them build fast.
WHO MUST APPLY?
It is mandatory that applicants should have a registered entity and be operational for a minimum 2 years or have ground breaking research with high potential of commercialization.
