Introduction
The global prevalence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) has risen over the past decade, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). As the global population ages, the total number of people affected by NCDs in LMICs will increase even further. The rise in NCDs in Africa places a tremendous social and economic burden on communities. Increased urbanization, rising poverty, weak health systems, weak policy guidelines, poor health seeking behaviour and socio-cultural factors pose challenges for NCDs prevention, management and control in sub-Saharan Africa.
About the research group
MLI NCD research group aims to improve the understanding of NCDs through conducting research and training inclined on building strong health systems for NCD prevention and control. We are committed to unraveling the complexities of NCDs, paving the way for innovative solutions, and contributing to a healthier future. The group consists of a multidisciplinary team of scientists with expertise in epidemiology, public health, clinic science such as mental health, and works closely with the community. By addressing the NCDs health challenges, we will support Uganda’s efforts to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
