The Uganda National Asthma Survey is a population based Asthma survey to generate data on the prevalence of asthma among adolescents and adults in rural and urban areas of Uganda

The true burden of Asthma in Uganda has not been well delineated. Well-designed population based surveys with adequate sample size have been lacking. In addition, there is renewed interest in non-communicable diseases including chronic non communicable respiratory diseases. Given the foregoing, Makerere University Lung Institute (MLI) has implemented a population based Asthma survey to generate data on the prevalence of asthma among adolescents and adults in rural and urban areas of Uganda using questions from internationally recognized questionnaires such as The WHO world health survey 1 and 2, the ISAAC studies and the European Respiratory Health Community surveys (ERHCS). Under this Asthma survey, an association between hypertension (HPT) and asthma is being investigated since HPT and other cardiovascular diseases are associated with poor asthma control and may increase asthma burden (mortality, healthcare utilization).
